When can you talk about vintage and when is something second-hand?

In recent years, the term "vintage" has become extremely popular, but it is often confused with second-hand clothing. However, it is important not to confuse the two. As a vintage lover, it sometimes hurts me when people consider a beautiful, undamaged silk blouse as "too expensive for second-hand clothing", or when someone wants to resell their still good-looking designer clothes to me. I understand that this is usually not said or asked out of bad intentions, but rather out of ignorance. Fortunately, I notice that more and more people are becoming aware of the special value of vintage clothing.

For those who don't know, let me explain what the difference is. It is completely normal if you do not know this immediately. Here's the enlightening story!

Second-hand clothing simply includes all clothing that has been worn before, including second-hand clothing from H&M and Zara. However, not all second-hand clothing can be labeled as vintage. According to the rule, clothing can only be called vintage if it is at least 25 years old. Calculating backwards, this means that we can consider clothing from before 1998 as vintage. I can hear you thinking: "But weren't H&M and Zara already there then?" That's true, but these large chains have mainly become big because of their role in the Fast Fashion industry. Vintage clothing refers to clothing from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, when clothing was still produced on a smaller scale. An interesting fact: there is also clothing that is more than 100 years old, but it is characterized as antique and is generally no longer wearable. This especially attracts collectors who are interested in objects from those eras.

At Eeden Conceptstore our focus is on vintage clothing with a modern touch. We combine the charm and quality of vintage with items that are easy to integrate into contemporary fashion.
